About Us
The Office of Education at the Semel Institute and Psychiatry houses a variety of clinical and nonclinical training programs and fields of research. It is designed to serve current UCLA and visiting undergraduates and graduate students, medical students, residents and postgraduate researchers. These programs are administered and contained by the Medical & Undergraduate Student Education, Residency Education, Post-Residency Education and the Academic Trainee Offices.
- Through Medical Education, students from The David Geffen School of Medicine, as well as outside institutions, are taught by our distinguished faculty the essential Psychiatric knowledge and are exposed to crucial patient experiences needed for the general practice of medicine. Through Undergraduate Education, students from UCLA are provided opportunities to immerse in the field of mental health through courses and research.
- Residency Education ensures that Psychiatry Residents have earned the necessary credentials for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and are well prepared for their future career.
- The Academic Trainee Office (ATO) at the UCLA Semel Institute hires and supports Postdoctoral Scholars from all over the world, UCLA Graduate Students and Predoctoral trainees, and domestic and international Visiting Graduate and Undergraduate Researchers. Our office provides guidance and expertise, while also serving as the departmental liaison and working with several departments throughout campus in order to support and manage trainees’ personnel needs while they navigate through their early research careers in the field of Psychiatry, Biobehavioral Sciences, and the Neurosciences.
- Clinical Psychology Training Programs at The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences of the David Geffen School Medicine, the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital offer multiple training opportunities in clinical psychology and neuropsychology from pre-internship through advanced postdoctoral levels.
As the field of Psychiatry continues to expand within and across disciplines, the Office of Education at Semel Institute will continue to help shape the education and training of future leaders in the field.
