Available for the 25-26 Training Year
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The UCLA BrainSPORT program is a multidisciplinary clinical, research, outreach, and educational program focusing on brain injuries, including concussions, in athletes, youth, and adults. The BrainSPORT rotation will be offering two tracks this year, a brief assessment rotation and a brief CBT rotation. Rotating interns in the assessment track will learn to conduct brief neuropsychological screening batteries in a multi-disciplinary concussion clinic and provide feedback to patients and colleagues. Rotating interns in the CBT track will learn to provide a brief (6-week) CBT intervention to select patients who exhibit catastrophizing or avoidance behaviors. Supervision for the assessment track will be on an individual basis, in person and in clinic immediately following patient assessment and prior to feedback with patient/family. Additional supervision may be scheduled as needed. Supervision for the CBT track will be provided weekly between CBT sessions in either individual or small group format.
This program provides a great training opportunity to interact with trainees and fellows in neurology (pediatric and adult), occupational therapy, nutrition, and sports medicine. There are ample clinical and translational research opportunities for interested trainees, as well as weekly research and clinical seminars. Three 4-month rotations are offered each year.
DAY, TIME, AND LOCATION:
Assessment training opportunities are available Tuesdays, 8 -noon, and Thursday afternoons (times vary). Other clinic times are possible upon availability.
The Tuesday morning clinic is off the main Westwood campus, at the pediatric specialty suite in Santa Monica, near the UCLA Medical Center (15th street and Wilshire).
CBT clinic days are TBD depending on the intern and supervisor schedules. CBT services will be provided virtually, with the possibility of in person sessions.
