Available for the 26-27 training year
ELECTIVE DESCRIPTION:
Insomnia Clinic will offer a 6-month elective of 4 hours/week or a 12-month elective of 4 hours/week, thus 100 or 200 hours in total. Trainees will first have an afternoon of lectures and then shadow an attending delivering individual sessions of CBT-I over 2 weeks; after this intense and close learning opportunity, trainees will deliver 2-3 individual sessions each week with a real time supervision by an attending through a video conference. After the conclusion of each session, there will be individual face-to-face supervision by the same attending. There will also be a monthly didactic meeting for more teaching and interaction between all attendings and trainees.
The training will focus on individual CBT-I, a structured treatment program of 8 weekly sessions. Given the highly structured nature of our intervention, interns will be able to learn and practice CBT-I with high fidelity.
During the clinic rotation (6 or 12 months), interns will have lectures on:
- Diagnostic assessment of insomnia
- Selection of CBT-I or MBBT-I based on the patient profile and preference and the characteristics of insomnia
- Management of hypnotic medications during behavioral treatments (hypnotics usually reduced or discontinued but not newly prescribed)
- Principles, content, and delivery of CBT-I
- Principles and content of MBBT-I: lectures about but no training in delivery of MBBT-I will be provided due to the training requirements for this modality.
